U.V. - I.R. Light supplement?

Postby Stew Skinner » Fri Jan 30, 2009 5:15 am

Howdy y'all!! :welcome: Whoo...been away from Walter's living room way too long!! Lots of reading to catch-up on.

Here's a question that may be really REALLY dumb....Would adding Ultra-violet and/or infrared light to a tank be helpful/harmful/or useless?

I figure that those are natural part of the spectrum and may be beneficial to plants. Heck...some people add UV filters to their plumbing for reducing "bugs", so why not use the same lights to apply to the whole tank?

So many ideas....  I feel a DIY plan coming on!!

*****EDIT****OK, found some info about what those spectrums can do to eyes and skin....BAD IDEA!!!

Give a man a fish and he eats for a day. Teach him how to fish and hope you never find him alone in your fish room!!

Hi Stew :welcome:

Makes two of us being away too long.

Your idea is good... but most tubes and such supply a close approximation to daylight with attendant UV and IF lights while the devices sold use only those spectrums they "supply"... ( think in terms of concentration... / percentages ). And yes... damage to you and the fish
